My favourite brass instrument related ad since Lurpak's trombone dude.
Delightful characterisation, great direction and a gleeful sense of fun.
The natural message comes across clearly, and apparently kids love the ads; win win.

Oh nuts...
The new Snickers ad has been banned for being offensive (supposedly) to gay people. Sure I understand where its coming from, the dialogue has a couple of lines that might be construed as dodgy. Yet at no point is there an actual reference to sexuality, people are just reading far too much into things.
But there are countless other ads that have the exact same 'real man' message, McCoys crisps for just one example; and no one seems to care about them. So what is it that makes ad worse?
Well it isn't the production, the over the top destruction and comic gun firing are as good as the first ad; and the concept of trying to speedwalk away from danger is funny.
And the best irony of all, this ad is by the same agency that did the Heinz ad that was banned featuring two guys kissing.

La Deutsche
Thanks to Chimp for pointing this ad out for the Citroen C5.What impresses me is that Euro RSCG and Citroen have gone for quite a brave position with this ad, one that could leave them open to criticism, but might also create a positive shift.
"Unmistakably German (Made in France)"
To openly acknowledge the qualities of your competitors, and in a sense be critical of your heritage within your message seems like a very bold move. I look forward to seeing the reaction this ad gets, but full marks to the agency and client for trying something new; especially in an age with plenty of dull car ads.

Pull it Out!
I think the new fire safety ad is pretty good. It has a slightly different way of getting the message across; not just fear about harm coming to your loved ones, but a not so subtle accusation that not checking is really just laziness.
The choice of actor is spot on, someone with the right authority to make the message engaging yet forceful.
It made me check ours...

Super Simplicity
Simplicity is a virtue that is too often ignored in advertising.
It is however, no coincidence that many of the great campaigns we treasure are those which are simple at heart. They may have big budgets and expensive filmography; but the concept is easy to understand.
Sony's Bravia ads. Big budget, elaborate visuals; but a clear as day message: Colour like no other.
Its so much easier for people to remember, and act upon simple ideas. Which is why I love the work of Julian Burton. A guy who goes into big companies and helps the workforce understand the strategy and direction of the company through painting.
Its wonderful stuff.
Maybe that should be an ad test. If you can't paint the idea, it shouldnt be made.
